Our first Pregnancy Photography Training Session

We’ve had a very busy week so far and there’s lots more to come. We are in the throes of building our training sessions for pregnancy and newborns. Luckily our pregnant model is providing both!! She was wonderful in front of the camera and not too shy. Unsurprising, as it turns out that she has appeared with the ‘Great Gok’ himself on ‘How to Look Good Naked’!! We have videoed the session, and we are recording training notes, visuals and handy pdfs to go with the session. We’ll then be uploading taster sessions very soon.

Family Fun!

I met a wonderful family last weekend, they had been lucky enough to receive this photo shoot from the children’s Godmother at a recent charity auction. It was a typical family set up, a 12, 9 and 5 year old all needing some persuasion and a bit of silliness to giggle in front of the camera. The 12 year old particularly loved her guitar and her siblings near by. Having spoken to the mum regarding any requests about the shoot, she wanted to capture the close relationship her two daughters shared and as you can see, they are very close.

This was a lovely photo shoot to do, as the children were great fun. Plus we also had a giant teddy bear and a large purple, Fatboy bean bag to ably assist us.

My main aim was to get a smile from everyone, capture a particular aspect of everyone’s character and to show the close relationship which existed between them all. In fact this is my main aim in any family shoot but this one was particularly special as the eldest daughter requires round the clock care and is unable to sit unaided. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves, even when one of them fell asleep and started snoring!

Patience, wide aperture and lightening quick reactions needed here as some expressions were gone in blink.

Studio or location?

This is a question I am asked most often. The answer I usually give is it is your choice. I love photographing children, who are capable of walking, out and about – jumping, chasing, exploring. The light is usually great and you can capture them in a very natural environment. Sometimes though, a cleaner, ‘white’ look is required – in the style of the iconic GAP ads. If you are considering a shoot and don’t think your home is suitable, think again! The majority of my work is in client’s homes. Some of these shots are most definitely taken on location, but which were taken in the studio?

We had a great shoot recently with a family’s new arrival ..their second daughter! Cute as a button and just as cheeky as her older sister! I couldn’t resist opening up a mini competition to find the best caption for this sweet picture on our facebook page. We had some hilarious entries but it really was very clear which caption best fitted the image.

So, the lucky winner, who receives a £50 Tina Bolton photography voucher to spend with us over the next 6 months is…..

Claire Bustin with: in the voice of the late great Tommy Cooper…”just like that” CONGRATULATIONS Claire!! Bronwen, whose daughter this is, will also receive an A4 print (worth £45) as a thank you for letting us use her little darling’s image!

Claire came up with LOADS of ideas and a big thank you to everyone who joined in!! I am sure we’ll come up with another one sometime closer to Christmas, so watch this space or ‘like’ our page to keep up with the latest offers and news.

Generation game

This is one of my favourite families to photograph, and we have shared many photo shoots together including, weddings, bumps, newborns and now a big family birthday celebration. They all managed to keep smiling despite the rugby results the previous day!

This shot reproduced a family shot they had when their hair was far more embarrassing!

Now more importantly we had three gorgeous grandchildren on the scene, a beautiful sweeping staircase and a classic shot just crying out to be taken! I couldn’t resist!

I think he could breathe!

Teenagers are sooo much fun during a photo shoot and these guys were no exception!! We had a great afternoon near a country cricket ground, just ‘larking’ about taking photos. The mum wanted some professional photographs that reflected the family’s sense of fun and we did that! The trick is to get them ‘doing’ things during a shot and photographing the laughter that inevitably follows. Of course towards the end when everyone is relaxed they feel much happier posing for more family style images (even though mum was actually doing ‘the plank’ in one of them!!) Smiles and fun all round and everyone liked their pics.
